Currently, it is not open source. We have not made a final decision on this matter yet. For now, we want to determine whether there is sufficient demand for this type of wallet and its features, and then decide on the next steps.

💡Is Buho a self-custodial solution?
No, your funds are located in our lightning node. Our approach is designed to make the entry into Bitcoin Lightning as effortless as possible for our friends. Here’s how we achieve that:
- Simple Onboarding: We prioritize an easy start for all users.
- Familiar Interface: Our design mimics traditional online banking, ensuring comfort and familiarity.
- No Channel Management: We eliminate the need for our friends to handle complex channel management.
- Hurdle-Free Experience: All initial barriers are removed for a smooth entry.
- Future Self-Custodial Option: While not self-custodial at the start, we are actively developing a self-custodial solution for the future.
⚡️Is buho for saving my money?
No, buho wallet is not considered to have significant amounts of saving for longterm hold.
Big Amounts go Self-Custody
We highly recommend to frequently use one of our features to withdraw funds in self-custody.
Revenue Model
💰 How does Buho generate revenue?
Buho began as an enthusiast-driven project, originally created as a showcase for our friends. In the early stages, we plan to invest our own funds as much as possible. Additionally, we have introduced a v4v model:
Road Map: We highlight innovative ideas from our community that we plan to pursue next here. You can contribute by sharing your thoughts in the comments or by donating to support these initiatives.
Donate to Our Fundraiser: We have created a fundraise on Geyser as well.
Plan B
If the v4v model does not succeed and our privat funds are exhausted, we will pause the creation of new content and consider other models which cover server and maintenace costs.
